Getting Involved
If you are thinking about volunteering, then here is some general information you might find helpful:
What is voluntary work?
Voluntary work is any activity in the community which someone undertakes without any payment. A volunteer freely gives his or her own time to a job without financial recompense. The work is usually for local charities, community organisations or agencies that provide community services rather than to make a profit.
How can I find out more about what is available?
Contact us at the Volunteer Exchange – that’s what we’re here for! We keep in touch with all the charities and community organisations in the Preston area that use volunteers and try to maintain an up-to-date database of volunteer opportunities. You can call in for a one to one confidential interview, with no obligation to commit yourself to anything
What sort of voluntary work is there?
There is a huge range of voluntary opportunities including caring, administration work, computers, gardening and environmental work, charity shops, homelessness, counselling, driving, befriending – and the list goes on! So, whatever your background or interests, whatever you age or ability, however much (or little) time you can afford to give – there will be something for you.
